Summer Picnic Quilt Sew-Along: Month 4
|
Welcome to October! The season has certainly changed here in Oregon, and I am loving the warm days and cool nights. My thoughts are turning towards decorating for fall and the upcoming holidays. It seems like just last week summer started. I really wanted to make a scrappy patriotic red, white and blue quilt during this election year. What I did not foresee was the history that is happening as I work on this quilt. The historical moments that I am stitching into the seams. I have to admit I probably did not pay much attention to politics in the past. Maybe it has something to do with getting older. Maybe it has something to do with watching things around me more closely. Whatever the reason, no matter what side you are on or your opinion, I think most will agree it has been a whirlwind of an election year. And we still have another month before the election. Ok, onward to this month's post..... |
If you are creating the Summer Picnic Quilt following Susan's book instructions, you will create Basket Four Blocks this month. You will create a total of 12 Basket Four Blocks that will go together in 3 - 4 block units. |
Here is the Summer Picnic Quilt Sew-Along Schedule following the book: 07/04/2024 - Month 1: Basket One Blocks 08/04/2024 - Month 2: Basket Two Blocks 09/04/2024 - Month 3: Basket Three Blocks 10/04/2024 - Month 4: Basket Four Blocks - We are here! 11/04/2024 - Month 5: Basket Five Blocks 12/04/2024 - Month 6: Assembly |

If you are following my Summer Picnic Quilt Sew-Along adventure, keep reading..... |
Ok, I have my pile of Flower Basket Blocks finished and now it's time to sew them into (4) block units. |
For each block unit, you will need 4 Flower Basket Blocks, 1 - center square, and 4 rectangle sashing pieces. |
Since I did not coordinate making a calculated number of red, light blue, white, and gray Flower Baskets, I am randomly pulling my Flower Basket Blocks for each (4) block unit. I want a scrappy look. I am watching that I don't use the same fabrics in each unit, unless I have to towards the end. |
This is going to go fast and I can see real progress! While all the little Half Square Triangles were a little tedious in the beginning, I am glad I did them all at the same time so I can make quick progress now in putting my units together. |
Yeah! They blocks are looking soooo pretty together. |
