National Sew A Jelly Roll Day 2025!

Jelly Roll Day
Celebrate National Sew A Jelly Roll Day 2025 with Three Free Quilt Patterns!

Every September, quilters across the country come together to celebrate National Sew A Jelly Roll Day, and 2025 is no exception! This year, the big day falls on Saturday, September 20th, 2025, and it’s the perfect excuse to open up those favorite Jelly Rolls you’ve been saving, gather with friends, and stitch up something beautiful.

Jelly Rolls—those colorful 2 1/2" precut fabric strips—make quilting faster, easier, and so much fun. Whether you’re a beginner looking for a simple project or an experienced quilter ready for a challenge, Jelly Rolls are the ultimate time-saver fabric precut that sparks endless creativity.

To help you celebrate, we’re excited to share three FREE quilt patterns from Moda that you can download and start sewing today. Each pattern is designed to showcase the beauty of a Moda Jelly Roll. The quilts can be enlarged by using a second Jelly Roll and adding more blocks.  Or make smaller projects such as runners, placemats, and pillows.

#2 shift would be my first choice, but would also like to do #1. I have several spare jelly rolls. I can't wait to get started.

I like the idea of doing Shift in a Christmas theme! Maybe even throw in some metallic for sparkle. Or, quilt with metallic thread!
  • 11. Posted by Jessica Murff on September 10th, 2025 at 3:46 a.m.
Anazasi is my choice. Wish the patterns were available a day two ahead so we could precut. But nice patterns this year

  • 18. Posted by Doris on September 9th, 2025 at 8:06 a.m.
I am drawn to the Shift Quilt as it reminds me of twist ribbons hanging from a Christmas tree. Plan to make mine merry and bright with Chriatmas prints. Am excited to start!

The Shift Quilt is on my radar. Looking forward to it!
  • 21. Posted by Irene on September 9th, 2025 at 7:48 a.m.
I like both the Shift quilt and the Luster, but I think I'd like to tackle the Shift first. I have the perfect fabric for the Luster, but alas, it's in the 10 inch pack.
  • 22. Posted by JoAnn Tierney on September 9th, 2025 at 7:07 a.m.
All three quilts are doable but the Shift quilt intrigues me most. I’ll have to dive into my stash to pick the perfect roll for this one
  • 23. Posted by Juanita Hammersmith on September 9th, 2025 at 7:03 a.m.
I'd like to make the Anasazi quilt. I've never made this pattern, so I'm ready to try something new.
  • 24. Posted by Peg on September 9th, 2025 at 7:02 a.m.
I will be at our guild's retreat on that day so perfect to sew the Luster quilt and celebrate JR day!
  • 25. Posted by Christine on September 9th, 2025 at 6:48 a.m.
Thank you Shari for revealing the patterns. I had just looked at the Moda website and didn’t see the new ones. I plan on trying the Anasazi . Is there anyone doing a live sew along on that day.
  • 26. Posted by Kathy Ann Kormos on September 9th, 2025 at 6:39 a.m.
I would make the Sunbonnet Sue Quilt. I really likes them all. But the sunbonnet is my favorite one.
  • 27. Posted by Bonnie on September 9th, 2025 at 6:32 a.m.
I would like to do the Shift Quilt. Little different than some I've done. Second I would do the Anastasia quilt. All are a great way to use up Jelly rolls I have. Thanks Bear Creek.
  • 28. Posted by Debbie on September 9th, 2025 at 6:12 a.m.
Love all 3 patterns, but thinking the Luster pattern for a Christmas roll and layer cake i have! Thanks!
  • 29. Posted by Marie Bender Lee on September 9th, 2025 at 6:05 a.m.
I love them all. I do a lot of quilting for relief efforts and have many strips to use. These patterns will be wonderful. And I have 12 Sunbonnet Sues my mother assembled from fabrics of childhood dresses of the '50's and '60's and haven't decided how to put them together. I think I've found an answer. Thanks.
  • 30. Posted by Barbara on September 9th, 2025 at 6:01 a.m.
Love the Luster quilt. I have some odds and ends embroidery and cross stitch pieces that would be perfect for blocks showing the sunbonnet Sue.
  • 31. Posted by Elizabeth Yarberry on September 9th, 2025 at 5:51 a.m.
I am very excited to try each of these patterns. I particularly have wanted to do a Sunbonnet Sue quilt. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity.
  • 32. Posted by Shelley B on September 9th, 2025 at 5:50 a.m.
I love the Anasazi Quilt and plan to make this one.
  • 33. Posted by Ann on September 9th, 2025 at 5:48 a.m.
I love all of the patterns but am most excited to try the Shift Quilt. The patterns also come out on my birthday, so I may have to treat myself to a new jelly roll!
  • 34. Posted by Sonja on September 9th, 2025 at 5:44 a.m.
The Luster quilt is adorable done in the Sunbonnet Sue fabric. Will have track that fabric down. Lots of fun!
  • 35. Posted by Donna Pheneger on September 9th, 2025 at 5:27 a.m.
I think Anasazi would be my favorite. We're full time RVers so this would also be the easiest! ;-)
  • 36. Posted by Kathryn on September 9th, 2025 at 5:24 a.m.
I think the Shift Quilt would be fun. Though the Anasazi Quilt looks interesting. Both would be great fun to try.
  • 37. Posted by Candice on September 8th, 2025 at 10:46 a.m.
Shift, followed by the other 2. I do have ideas for a slightly different version of the Luster. We'll see. I'm joining in a group at Quality Sewing and Vacuum in Puyallup, WA for a fun day! Sew excited for the 20th and these great patterns.
  • 38. Posted by Vanessa Menard on September 7th, 2025 at 10:35 a.m.
I am undecided between the Shift and the Luster i really like the colors in the Luster!
