Moda Blockheads V (2023-2024)

Welcome to Moda Blockheads 5 (2023-2024)!

What:
Moda Blockheads Block-a-Week is a FREE sampler style mystery quilt.

When:
First Group (a short series) starts September 6th, 2023 and runs until November 15th, 2023. First Group finishing instructions are scheduled to release on November 15th, 2023

Second Group (a longer series) starts January 3rd, 2024 and runs through July 2024. Second Group finishing instructions date has not been revealed.

Where:
The Moda designers release one new PDF downloadable FREE quilt block every Wednesday on their own blog, on the Moda blog, and in the Moda Blockheads private Facebook Group. Visit the Moda designer's blog for additional tips, tricks and inspiration about the block. (We will update this page as time allows during our business hours on Wednesdays.)

How:
This time the Moda designers are offering two Groups:

The First Group will consist of (10) - 9 regular and a bonus block

Two sizes offered: 6" finished and 12" finished

The Second Group will consist of 30 blocks

Block size has not been revealed

Fabric Requirements:
This is a sampler-style quilt and cutting is not always the most efficient. Fabric requirements can vary depending on your specific placement of fabrics. A general starting point for making all the blocks in both Groups is 30-40 Fat Quarters and 3-4 yards of background fabric. More fabric is always better so you have more choices, no fear of running out, and extra for any errors. More is also necessary if you prefer to pre-wash and/or starch your fabrics. You may need some additional fabric depending on the block layout setting you choose at the end.

Here are some fabric suggested guidelines...
First Group Lap Quilt:

1 3/4 yard - background and sashing
11-12 fat quarters - blocks
5/8 yard - outer border fabric
1/4 yard - binding fabric
3 yards - backing fabric

First Group Pillow:

1 yard - background
11-12 fat quarters - blocks
1/8 yard - border fabric
30" x 30" - backing fabric

First Group Bunting:

3/4 yard - background
11-12 fat quarters - blocks
12 layer cake squares (10"x10") - bunting
1/4 - binding

Block Layout Settings:
Block layout settings will be revealed near the end of each group series.
A block layout setting will be given for the first group for a lap, pillow, and a decorative bunting.
A block layout setting will be given for the second group using only 30 blocks.
The Moda designers may have suprise block setting options for using all 40 combined blocks.
